Commercially, it's doing magic. It has raised a heap of money to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake. I salute. This was a bright idea.

Music wise...NOT.

Some things...in this case an icon of a song, are way way way...way way way waaaay better left untouched. "Un-remade". Hehehehe.
Seriously. No question about the motive and the timing. It was a no brainer that this could help a lot. Hey, I'm all for helping. This afterall is one of the most noble acts a country...an industry, has done for Haiti.
So let's talk music. It's over-sung. Too much going on. It was like they were afraid no one would get it that it's 2010. Did they make a pact that they were going to put every technical updates in there? What's that called? Autotone?
More like tone deaf.
I'm not going to go bash any of the 80 artists who participated in the remake. I'm going for the people behind the whole shebang.
The footage of MJ did bring a smile to my face. But couldn't they just have left it at that? A solo? So okay, they are afterall the music geniuses of this world. But like I said, the song was over-sung. Too much whimsy flinsy going on. And the autotone was numbing. A bit of rap to take the listeners by surprise would have been enough. A good effect is the best thing. But when stretched to unnecessary lengths --- it becomes tiring. And unnecessary. I leave it to them geniuses the criteria in choosing who sings what part. They know better. Or do they? Somehow I feel, consideration should have been taken on the opinions of people "outside looking in".
Too much going back and forth to different singers. Too much thoughts given on how they should dress (the whole thing came out too dark).
Too much thought was given on new technology.
Did they have to change some verse?
WHY?
In the name of being politically correct?
A song is a song is a song is a song. Have the world and its views really changed that way?
Here's one for political correctness:
WRITE A NEW SONG!!!

I'm all for helping. They just could have written a new song. With all the music geniuses in that room, you'd think they'd come up with one technically sane show.
But hey, if it sells, then why not, right?

I like this one better. Simple, natural and message is clear (devoid of any autotone):
(I'm just saying...)
